The weather today was calm up top and the ocean waves softly collide with seaside town, however for some of the resident at ocean floor is a different story. Oceris having both her hands covering her face in defeat as the she let her knees plop to the ground, groaning in pain as she have exhausted her mental faculties trying figure out how machineries work with cogs and gears.
Begrudgingly, she stop herself from trying to continue figuring it out, stand up, and start walking out of the workshop to come and find her guardian. Walking to every room she know about and hoping to see a lean individual, but after a while as an inaudible click start to reverberate silently through out the hall way. In her frustration she suddenly hear rhythmic hammering echoing in a different corner of the workshop that she forget in amidst for frustration.
She approach the smithing that is taking place, Top half of Omega’s kimono is hanging around his waist. One wielding a netherite hammer, the other a tong to hold the craft in place. Oceris staying quiet as she tries not to disturb Omega’s focus, she quickly take notice of various arcane circle floating around and slowly slide itself onto the forming metal. With each more rhythmic beat, the metal is shaped into a blade. Omega then quickly pick up the formed blade and quenching it in oils smoking the entire room. He calmly walk over to his grindstone and start to sharpen it while removing all of the kinks.
“I appreciate that you waited for me to finish. Thanks honey.” Omega started the conversation even though his eyes never cast it anywhere near Oceris.
“Hey Dad… ” she say dejectedly, her fins drooping a little “Can you teach me about machineries again? I’m stuck…”
“I would love too. I’m halfway there sharpening this blade. give me a moment.” Omega reply calmly in a way to reassure Oceris.
“Thanks Dad…why is it so awkward saying it” Oceris feeling a chill running against her back.
“You and me both… honey” Omega’s agree along with a barely noticeable smile. Oceris take a seat at the nearest chair she can find as she she observe her adoptive dad finishing up his work. The lean man who is oddly a very strange person to work with fire and hammer, even though he is a mage. Omega’s does his final check before placing it on a rack. Using one of his many spell and clean up the place.
“So what’s bothering you” He ponder on the event that has cascade into his daughter asking him for some question as they walk over to the problem that she has been trying to figure out.
“It’s… The connection… It’s overstressing… even though it’s shouldn’t be. There is enough stress capacity” Oceris exasperatedly said. “Look, the gauge even directly display that it’s has everything it’s need, But it doesn’t start.”
Omega raises his hands to knock on the gauge to check it’s displaying correctly, seeing the arrows flickers before settling back to where it’s suppose to display. He hum a little as he pivot to the machine and the pipeline that was laid out to this machine. “Well, when one part work, you start moving to the next part that is connected to it.” He stated slowly each rules he advise Oceris to follow.
“Yeah. And when you find a part that stop spinning, you check everything around it” Oceris reciting the second rule that her father teach her. Omega nod as he stop at a junction where everything stop.
“Correct. Very good Oceris. I’m proud” he compliment her which make her slightly blush with words stuck in her throat. Omega open up the junction taking notice of the state that it is in. “Come here. Let me show you something.” he gesture while powering down the machine for safety reason.
Oceris squint, become visibly more confuse “I thought.. I thought I checked that place before.”
“It happened, Oceris. I even done this before many time and still miss a spot every now and then” he calmly state before giving her a head pat to calm her down a little. He’s still learning how to calm down Oceris. While she is humming in her frustration with a slightly puff up cheeks.
“Now as you can see here, you have more than 2 connection that running in the same motions while connected to each other and now every other cogwheels are following the main output-” Omega calmly explaining the how the machine got stuck and unable to run
“-And causing the entire system to freeze up and unable to actively operate because everything jam” She said as her shoulder slump as the hum getting a little louder and her younger self habit of shivering her fins start to kick in. Which remind him of a fragment of his memory in Elysium before he ruined everything, he softly simper.
“There there” he softly speak to Oceris as he pat her shoulder before bringing his hand back and fix the machine. Which when everything is finish, Omega reactivate the machine which roar to life and now in operation.
“Thank you dad.” Oceris said still looking downward dejected.
“Now now, raise your head dear. Sorry if I didn’t teach you much.”
“No- You did plenty. I was just being-”
“Shush! Now all things is fixed and you did good. I like what you have made, how about it whenever grab something cold to eat?” He continue to reassure her so she don’t self-deprecate herself any further which caught attention.
“Ice Cream?” she raises her head a little more.
“That’s right? What do you want?” He question her, happy that her mood shifted for the better.
“Lemon ice cream?” She suggested.
“Sure. I can try”
